Today I had the
pleasure to interview the sweet Aida Magambetova. A 20 years old kazakh girl
living in Barcelona.
Elena: Good morning, how are you?
Aida: Good morning, very good.
Elena: Can you tell me your name, age and nationality?
Aida: I am Aida Magambetova, I’m 20
years old and I’m from Kazakhstan.
Elena: So, what are you doing here in Barcelona?
Aida: I’m studying Fashion Marketing and Communication at IED.
Elena: What made you come to study here?
Aida: Well, before coming I lived in Los Angeles for five years. There I was
studying screenwriting and theater production. Then I wanted to travel and I
found this because some friends of mine studied here before so they told me
that the school is good and I should come. So I packed my things and I came
here.
Elena: Why did you want to change from screenwriting and theater production to
fashion?
Aida: Well, theatre production is similar to fashion; some parts are the same
and I wanted to do something new. But at the same time related with what I was studying
before.
Elena: Tell me about your family. Where you in LA with your parents? Do you
have siblings?
Aida: In LA I was living alone, my parents are in Kazakhstan and I have one
brother. He is 18 years old, he lives in Boston and he is a senior in High
School and plays ice hockey.
Elena: How about your relationship with your parents, living so far away from
them?
Aida: The relationship with my parents is really good, I mean, I’m very glad they
let me go wherever I want and do whatever I want, so yeah, pretty great.
Elena: What do you want to do after this fashion course?
Aida: Right now, I’m finishing my script so without it I’ll never become a
screenwriter; I guess I will go to the fashion industry. I like styling and I
would prefer to style for movies and do stage designs.
Elena: What is your favorite movie in terms of fashion style?
Aida: I would say Only lovers left alive by Jim Jarmusch or Elizabeth
the golden age. I like the medieval kind of movie like Marie Antoinette that you can really play with costumes.
Elena: What would be a day in Aida’s life?
Aida: I sleep a lot and apart from sleeping I wake up, go running, I watch a
lot of movies, I spend most of my time watching movies. I watch weird movies
that people don’t really watch.
Elena: Like which ones?
Aida: Yesterday, I did the marathon on old Japanese movies, which are really
weird. I would never recommend anyone.
Elena: Do you like playing sports?
Aida: I am a football fan, I support Chelsea; I also am a member of Real Club
de Polo Barcelona so I’m trying to be better at polo, because I suck right now.
Elena: Are you watching the Godó tournament these days?
Aida: I like tennis, I love Rafa Nadal, and Djokovic, I hate Federer, I think
he is pretentious and I like the style Rafa plays.
Elena: Are you a coffee or a tea person?
Aida: Tea, in Kazakhstan we prefer tea, like the British. I drink tea all day
long.
Elena: Which one is your favorite?
Aida: Oh my God, so many… Jasmine green tea and Moroccan red tea.
Elena: Could you tell me your favorite designer? In terms of shoes and
clothes.
Aida: Well, I would say Yohji Yamamoto and then maybe for Haute Couture I
really really like Elie Saab and all the Lebanese Arabic designers that just
came in. I think they are all really good. I think they pay attention to
details and it’s crazy.
Elena: Favorite model?
Aida: Agyness Deyn.
Elena: With which movie director would you like to work with?
Aida: Oh my God, this is a good question. I
would like to work with Wes Anderson, I would love to work with Martin Scorsese
in some like gangster movie.
Elena: And with which actors and actresses?
Aida: I would die to dress Eva Green, I really like Penelope Cruz, I like how
crazy she always is, screaming and all this stuff.
Elena: Typical Spanish.
Aida: Yes very Spanish. There is
actually a lot of Spanish movies I’ve watched recently and it has been crazy
and some Mexican too. I watched Amores
perros, y Tu mama también, all Pedro Almodovar movies, which are crazy. Especially one of the
latest The skin I live in.
Elena: Yes, with Elena Anaya
Aida: Yes, that was freaking “Oh my God”, with Antonio Banderas. Spanish
movies are cool.
Elena: To end, I’ve been observing the tattoo you have in your forearm, what
does it mean?
Aida: It’s my brother’s birthday and he has the same but with mine.
Elena: That’s sweat. Thanks you very much for your time, Aida.
